The 5 Best Pregnancy Journals in Australia & NZ (…and the Worst)

The 5 Best Pregnancy Journals in Australia & New Zealand

If you’re looking for a beautiful gift for an expectant Mum this year, you can’t do better than something she will keep forever to remember her journey, so these are the 5 best Pregnancy Journals in Australia and New Zealand. Somewhere to write down all her thoughts and feelings, important appointments and midwife visits, paste in scans and belly bump photos.

Whether you’re writing down your memories, feelings, dreams (or cravings!) journaling is one of the most effective ways to reflect upon and bring clarity to your life.

The best pregnancy journals for you will depend on what you’re looking for – are you a diary lover, will you write all day, or do you want something with more room for photos? Do journal prompts help you, or do you prefer blank pages – and do you want one with lots of colour and illustration, or would you prefer something simple?

The Best Pregnancy Journal if you love Diaries

The pregnancy journal I used right from the first trimester of my pregnancy was ‘made with love pregnancy journal‘ (Aus link/NZ link).

Made with love was the BEST pregnancy journal I could have possibly used, because I designed it myself during my pregnancy to suit every exact stage that I was going through… which brings me to the worst pregnancy journal…

The first pregnancy journal I looked at was the ‘Write to me’ journal. I absolutely love the ‘Write to me’ Christmas journal, so I definitely don’t have anything against the company, but the ‘9 Month – Beginning of You‘ pregnancy journal was incredibly bland – every week of pregnancy has the exact same questions, which seemed completely bizarre to me given how different each week is for most (and as if I’m going to measure my waist every week..?

It wasn’t detailed or thoughtful enough for me, so I decided to create my own, and made with love was ‘born’. However, because I know that the 9 months is another popular one, I’ve included a photo below that shows the questions (as I said, its the same for every week).

The Best Pregnancy Journal if you’re short on time

One of my favourite pregnancy journals isn’t really just a pregnancy journal, but a ‘Birth to 18 years’ diary by Promptly. As you can imagine, only around 5% of the journal focuses on pregnancy, but it’s a truly lovely journal to continue beyond the baby’s birth. I actually have one of these for the years to come, and though the pregnancy part of it is blank, I have loved filling it in during each month since my baby was born. If you’re looking for the best pregnancy journal, my suggestion is that you buy a dedicated pregnancy journal, but maybe save this one for later – it’s way more likely to get used than a baby book, IMHO!

The Best Pregnancy Journal for the Tech-Savvy

Promptly also has an App, so for those who want to ‘journal’ but who prefer to type than hand-write, the Promptly App might be the perfect alternative! Promptly App starts at $2.99 per month.

The Best Pregnancy Journal if you’re on a Budget

Having a baby is not only overwhelming, it’s expensive. By the time you’ve fitted out the nursery and packed your hospital bag, not to mention scheduled a few months off work, you may need to stick to a budget. Honestly, the BEST pregnancy journal in the entire world is the one that’s written from the heart. Your baby will ADORE reading about his or her journey earthside, whether it’s written in a custom designed pregnancy journal, or in a plain notebook. Don’t spend money you can’t afford on something you don’t desperately need.

If you need journal prompts to help you get started, here are a few from the made with love pregnancy journal (do not republish without permission):
